A little bit more about us

A little bit over 10 years ago, we had three different kinds of dogs. A golden, a basset-hound and Keeshound. The day that we lost our beloved “guess”, our faithful Golden, we decided to select a type of dog which possessed two of our most important criterias: a dog that loves children and a dog that has an outstanding tenderness.

Developing a high quality breeding farm is an enterprise that demands a lot patience and respect towards the animals that make it up. We still remember the arrival of our first newfie Leo. We went to get him during a huge snow blizzard… four long hours with our newest little ball of fur ! This little sweetheart was full of pep and so we automatically fell in love with him.

The same way a passionate gardener patiently awaits to see the small budding greens to grow into a masterpiece, we watched our first dog Leo (2005 champion), Piper (2007 champion) and Scarlett ( now retired) grow up. With the arrival of a new baby, we must learn to act as a “Newfoundland”. The ABC of growing up, and inherited illness of this breed. We also had to learn the ways to manage a “pack of dog” since our dog live among us in our house. Whether it be, big dogs, like newfs, or small dogs, a hierarchy develops between the dogs. As shocked as you may be, the breeder must absolutely viewed as the Alpha dog of the pack, otherwise many problem will arise !!!

We also believe that our newfs must resemble the traditional CKC (Canadian kennel club) as much as possible,, so to develop the beauty of our newfs and consequently that of the breed. That is why we avidly participate on dog shows in Quebec and Ontario. The rules of the contest, whether it be in Quebec or Ontario are the same. To briefly describe the procedure, we can say that the contest is divide into three stages. In the first stage, the best dog of each breed is selected. Afterwards, the different category ( working dogs, etc) and the best on is chosen for each category. Finally, a winner is chosen among all the group ( total of 7) which crowned “best in show”, the winner of the entire contest ( which is very prestigious and what makes a breeder so proud)

And so, as in life, come the times to have children. Piper gave us our first litter of puppies. To hold such tiny creatures in our hand… So fragile yet grow up so fast… Still today we are moved to see the arrival of these new being, despite all our experience.

During the first two month of their lives, the puppies live in our home with us and their mother. During this period we don’t get to sleep very much for a watchful eye must always be kept on them. It’s a moving experience, intense and tiresome, but is always worth all the worrying. We wouldn’t give up this precious time for all the money in the world !

And then comes the time to say goodbye… with tears in our eyes yet confidence in our hearts that these pups have each found their perfect family, we watch them leave…..

Our breeding dogs are certified : OFA for hips and elbows, OFA for the heart and thyroid gland, the eyes (CERF), and cystinuria. In addition they are from champion lines
